Checking tyre tread depth

How do I check my tyre tread depth?

Most car tyres have tread depth indicators in the tread itself. These are small ribs across the bottom of the main grooves in the tread. When the surface of the tread becomes level with these ribs the tyre is at the legal limit and must be replaced. You can also use a tread depth gauge to measure the tyre tread depth. If you are unsure please pop into the garage and we will check your tyres for you.

Worn tyres are not only dangerous but if found by the police to be defective (less than 1.6mm across the tyre) you will face a fine of up to £2500 and 3 penalty points per tyre.
